Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition
Since his inception exactly ten years ago, Ivor Goodsite has made appearances at thousands of schools, sites and countless other events to help educate young people about the importance of construction site safety and to promote all that is positive about the UK construction industry. In 2003, the Ivor character was launched by the Considerate Constructors Scheme as a means through which the industry could engage with a young audience, assisting with their community engagement events and making children aware of the dangers of construction sites. Year upon year he has become increasingly popular, building a range of educational products and becoming the familiar face of the industry that we all know today. Being such an important milestone in his history, this year will see Ivor launch his first Ivor Goodsite Hoarding Competition, where contractors will invite schools and...
Child Safety Week 2013 with 10% off Ivor products
Following the enormous success the Scheme had in raising awareness of Child Safety Week last year, it will again be looking to support this initiative in June 2013. Child Safety Week is a community education campaign, organised by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT), and will this year be running from 24 - 30 June. Through Child Safety Week, CAPT aims to raise awareness of the accidents that seriously injure or kill children and how to prevent them. Every year, thousands of organisations across the UK take part in Child Safety Week, holding hundreds of events and coming up with great ways of getting safety messages across to parents and families in fun, imaginative and engaging ways. The theme for this year's campaign is 'Be a Safety Hero', designed to teach practitioners and parents about how taking small measures...
Associate Members’ Meeting, June 2013
The Considerate Constructors Scheme has held the first of this year's Associate Members' Meeting at Coombe Abbey, Coventry on the 4th June 2013. The meeting allows Associate Members to meet and discuss Scheme issues and hear about the latest initiatives. David Watson, Scheme Chairman, opened the meeting and welcomed all those attending. This was followed by an update on the Scheme by Edward Hardy, Chief Executive, as well a report on 2012's financial results and the latest news on the new Code and Checklist. After lunch, the Associate Members were split into three groups, with each one taking turns to discuss the Associate Members' Working Group (set up to discuss the future development of Associate Membership), responses to feedback (from a questionnaire sent out to all Associate Members earlier this year) and the Associate Operations Meeting (a new event...
A strong start to 2013
The Considerate Constructors Scheme has seen a strong start to the year, despite continued difficult times for the industry, with registrations up against last year. The construction industry's continued support for the Scheme has led to excellent first quarter results which point towards a promising 2013. The Scheme saw a 4.4% increase in the number of sites registering in Q1 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, and the number of companies that registered with the Scheme in the first quarter of this year also saw an encouraging increase, with registrations up 15%. BBC News has recently reported that despite some signs of recovery, the construction industry remains weak according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Output from the industry rose 5.5% in February against the month before, but this was still 7% lower than...
