With the central site compound located nearby, this project involved the construction of 27 local authority dwellings on four separate small sites.

Despite the relatively small site area, excellent operative welfare facilities were a strong feature of this project. Round canteen tables, comfortable soft chairs and a lounge area including television and cooled water were all provided, with the addition of a games console and computer with internet access for use at break times.

An exceptional initiative was the site’s involvement in the St. John Ambulance Neighbourhood First Responder Units which train site first aiders who are willing to help the community in which they are working. Further community support included the creation of a school garden and allotment, and the free provision of topsoil and fencing for existing tenants.

These initiatives were supported by fantastic safety scores, good site presentation, the real encouragement of apprentices and a very proactive involvement with Occupational Health initiatives. The whole project represented a first class example of considerate construction in practice.
