British Land becomes a Client Partner

The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is pleased to announce that British Land, one of the UK’s largest property development and investment companies, has become their newest Client Partner.

The role of a Client Partner is to give the client’s perspective on the Scheme and to contribute ideas for its future development. Client Partners are expected to ensure that all construction companies or sites which they are responsible for are registered with the Scheme.

British Land has recently created its own ten-point Community Charter, which formalises the company’s long-held commitment to working with local communities in the development of new projects, or their subsequent alterations. It also includes a commitment to supporting local suppliers and tradesmen wherever possible and assisting with the training, employment and education of local people. British Land’s position on community support is very much in line with the Scheme’s own objectives; greater care and consideration from registered contractors towards the neighbourhood and general public.

Richard Elliot, Head of Construction for British Land, said: “We are delighted to join the Considerate Constructors Scheme as a Client Partner. We are wholly committed to the objectives of the CCS and require all our UK sites to register with the Scheme and all our construction partners to engage with the local community. We are pleased with some of the high scores we have achieved on a number of our sites recently, which reflect the high standards we set on areas including neighbourliness and environmental care. We expect our sites to outperform the CCS industry average, and are working with our construction partners to ensure that we achieve this.”

Chairman of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, Robert Biggs, commented: “We are delighted to welcome British Land aboard as a Client Partner. For many years the company has demonstrated the real benefits of working with communities in its many projects, and brings valuable knowledge and experience to the Client Partner body.”
