New Associate Member Canary Wharf Contractors Limited (CWCL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canary Wharf Group, an integrated property group of companies which has designed, constructed and let more office space in London than any other developer in the past 20 years. This includes over 15m square feet of office and retail space at Canary Wharf, now one of the world’s premier business and shopping districts with a working population of approximately 100,000. CWCL is also developing landmark projects elsewhere in central London, including 20 Fenchurch Street in the City of London (in a joint venture with Land Securities) and the Shell Centre on London’s South Bank (in a joint venture with Qatari Diar).
CWCL has registered building sites with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) since 1999, and its first CCS National Site Award was received in 2004.
Since its establishment in 1988, CWCL has fostered excellent community relationships and worked to the highest standards of construction, corporate responsibility, safety and sustainability. These values are at the core of CWCL, and have ensured consistently high standards of Considerate Constructors Scheme compliance, winning 14 CCS National Site Awards over the past seven years.
CWCL decided to become an Associate Member primarily because the ethos of the CCS very much matches that of its own.
CWCL values participation in the CCS and places a great deal of importance in targeting and attaining high standards of compliance within the Scheme. Associate Membership will therefore help to reinforce this position both internally and externally.
For CWCL, Associate Membership is about contributing to the direction of the Scheme, helping to continually raise the image of the construction sector and to generally gain a better understanding of the Scheme and its future direction.
Above all, it represents a welcome opportunity to share experiences and help drive improvements back into the construction industry for the benefit of the sector’s workforce and the communities in which it operates.
CWCL hopes that its Associate Membership presents an ideal opportunity to showcase the best that the construction sector has to offer, and provides iconic backdrops to promote both the Considerate Constructors Scheme and CWCL.
CWCL have a very positive relationship with our supply chain and local business community, as well as a unique relationship with our other Canary Wharf Group companies and their supply chain.
It is continually exploring ways to ensure that appropriate trade contractors and suppliers not only consider, but sign up to the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s Company Registration initiative.
