This city centre project, bounded by residential and commercial units and a park, required the refurbishment of existing museum facilities and the construction of a new extension.

Environmental matters were strongly addressed at this site, with the waste management plan awarded the top "Green" award by the local authority. Water and energy saving measures were equally well-observed, with energy trails established for materials and labour and the site’s carbon footprint regularly monitored. The ethic of conservation and recycling was reinforced at all inductions, with operatives required to complete a questionnaire.

The site was also actively involved with community, and staged open days tailored to the needs of the visitor groups which included those from universities and the construction industry. Regularly updated photographs around the perimeter informed the passing public of activity and progress, and during a winter freeze the site arranged the gritting of all the surrounding streets and pavements.

Equal attention was paid to reinforcing staff safety awareness, with competitions arranged and judged, to encourage and promote best performance. With spotless staff facilities matched by the excellent exterior presentation of the site, this whole project was of great credit to the aims of the Scheme.
