This major multi-faceted Olympic project required the construction of a main press centre, international broadcasting centre, welcome centre, four-storey catering village and a multi-storey car park.

Throughout the many areas of the various sites, the same high levels of considerate practice were scrupulously maintained. Despite strong competition from prestige projects across the Olympic Park, this site consistently achieved the highest levels of waste segregation and also won the rarely-awarded British Safety Council’s Globe of Honour. One of many innovations was the development of a remotely-controlled LED safety-light system with battery back-up, which used colour-coded illumination to indicate safe walkways and staircases.

The encouragement of ideas from younger operatives was also strongly in evidence, and, in advance of completion, de-mobilisation talks with staff were held to discuss and identify further work opportunities. Extensive charity fundraising was supported by practical community support as well as numerous site tours.

In concluding his report on the site, the Scheme’s Monitor added: "This project continues to be one of the best and most considerate on the Olympic Park, representing the UK construction industry at its very best".
