In a residential area of Scunthorpe, this extensive project required the installation of insulation and render to 77 local authority properties with some also requiring the replacement of doors, roofs and central heating.

To promote and support local businesses, this site hosted a special notice board in the canteen bearing details of every kind of local enterprise. Local labour was employed as widely as possible and Polish translations were in place for all key site information. Daily visits were made to site neighbours by liaison officers, and working hours were adjusted to accommodate shift workers. Large, clear identity badges worn by staff and operatives included Braille details for the security and comfort of residents with impaired sight. An energy awareness roadshow was opened to all local residents.

To encourage good presentation, a monthly ‘cleanest van award’ was in place, and a daily litter pick and road cleaning were also actioned. The site sponsored a wall of brick slips bearing the names of local servicemen killed in the Middle East conflicts.

Strong attention was paid to site safety and all operatives were issued with a helmet sticker identifying first aiders. Supported by a professional approach and good overall presentation, this site was a credit to the aims of the Scheme.
