Blackpool 6th Form College Phase 3

Blackpool 6th Form College Phase 3
Presented to: Tim Brice
Contractor: ISG Regions
Client: Blackpool Sixth Form College

This project required the demolition of existing buildings and the new build of a three-storey college building adjacent to the existing college and a residential area.

The Monitor for this site noted the choice of a text-line and feedback number as being particularly appropriate technology for a student environment. Further student contact included sponsorships, several work placements and support work for both visual arts and photography students in their courses. Video clips were shot on-site using a helmet camera, which were then used to talk the college students through construction methods step by step.

Relationships with Blackpool Build Up ensured employment for local labour trying to get back into the construction industry, and detailed effort was expended on measuring and reducing carbon footprints. To assist an elderly local resident, a special bath step was donated and the local authority contacted to improve parking in front of her property.

For Blackpool College the Head of Estates, Andy Martin, said: "The site team and manager, Tim Brice, worked diligently to ensure a smooth and trouble free construction phase. We received no complaints from students, parents or residents, due largely to the safe and tidy site areas and the supply of early information to all concerned about site activity".
