QM & Wraysbury Tunnel Re-lining

2014 MCS runners upQM & Wraysbury Tunnel Re-lining
Presented to: Vasile Chirita
Contractor: Barhale PLC
Client: Thames Water Utilities Ltd

This project was located in a semi-rural location near Slough, Berkshire and required the re-lining of 3 kilometre tunnels linking area reservoirs.

Despite being hardly visible from public areas, the team nevertheless ensured both neighbours and the community were kept informed of progress through a website blog, perimeter notice boards and the use of local display facilities. Support for the community included a Montessori Play Garden development, a visit to Datchet School and an ongoing site collection for the British Heart Foundation. This was supported by the employment of local labour and a local food supplier.

Welfare facilities were of an equally high standard and included male, female and disabled toilets, a canteen with full kitchen equipment, extra separate drying room, a prayer room, lockers and a shower. In addition, a gym has been set up in the compound. Assisted by staff barbecues and other team-building events, this site showed real commitment and motivation and was an excellent advertisement of the industry at work.
