Located on a narrow strip of land between a busy railway line, sidings and allotments in Oxford, this project required the design and build of new student accommodation blocks.

The adjoining allotments were a key beneficiary of this site’s activities with much help given in improving their location and buying produce for the site’s canteen. Allotment users also took part in a trial which compared water from the site’s highly innovative anaerobic digester to rain water for crop growing.

A particularly successful initiative with a local homeless charity was also noted, with employment created for homeless people in running the excellent site canteen and with all profits re-donated to the charity. A wide number of further community initiatives were in place, including special training support for military engineering staff.

With the innovative use of aerial photography to identify potential areas of improvement, this site showed real imagination and commitment, producing a considerate performance of an exceptionally high standard.
