M & S Ipswich
M & S Ipswich
Presented to: Rick Olley
Contractor: Wates Retail
Client: Marks & Spencer's
In a retail park at Martlesham near Ipswich, this project required the full fit-out of a new Marks & Spencer food store.
Very close liaison with all neighbouring retail units ensured minimal disruption at this site. The site manager met with adjoining retail units before work started and again when any large deliveries were planned. Similar contact was made for any potential noise or disturbance. Every delivery was escorted by an operative and banked into the service area, which was kept locked at all other times. These considerate standards were matched by immaculate external and internal presentation, the latter particularly significant with full length front windows allowing for full public inspection.
Though a fast-turnaround project, the site still managed significant community support including the redecoration of a local hospice’s reception area with a collection funding the materials. A site visit from the local primary school was also planned. Rounded off by local labour employment, excellent worker healthcare support and recycling scores approaching 100 per cent, this was a site that did much to advance the aims of the Scheme.
