Associate Member Q&A

New Associate Member GRAHAM Construction tells Industry Image why they decided to apply for Associate Membership and how they intend to ensure all their sites comply with the Scheme’s Code.

How did you first hear about the Scheme?

We first heard about the Scheme when it was launched in the 1990’s.

When did you register your first site?

We registered our first site back in 1999.

Why did you decide to apply to become an Associate Member?

To demonstrate our commitment to fully embrace all that the Considerate Constructors Scheme stands for.

What benefits do you hope to receive by being an Associate Member of the Scheme?

Through the Scheme to embrace Best in Class practices across all our sites and help shape a sustainable future for the Scheme.

How will you ensure all of your sites are registered?

We have amended our Project Start-up documents to reflect the fact that all our sites will now be registered – previously this was an optional response and depended on the Construction Director.

How will you ensure that all sites are adhering to the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice and how will they be supported so that they meet the required standard?

We are already developing our roll out procedure for all our Site Managers, to train them in the requirements and inform them of the internal & external support available. Site inductions & Toolbox Talks will also be revised to reflect the fact that all our sites are now registered with the Scheme.

Part of being an Associate Member is to encourage the Scheme’s Company Registration initiative – how do you intend to do this?

We are involved with BITC Supply Chain mentoring and have already encouraged those involved to register. Furthermore, we will encourage membership through our Procurement Phase and indeed by the induction & Toolbox talks and role model on site.

What challenges do you anticipate you will face with meeting the expectations of the Scheme?

Once our people are properly trained, the biggest challenge will be in trying to drive continuous improvement on each site.

Any other comments about the Scheme or Associate Membership?

This long association with CCS has enabled us to develop and implement a more holistic approach to the positive impact of construction on society. The CCS audits along with the award scheme have also helped us demonstrate this positive role to potential Clients & Stakeholders and to others in the industry.
