Contractor: Aspire Defence Capital Works
Client: Project Allenby/Connaught
The overall project is made up of several separate refurbishment and new build projects, each having its own principal subcontractor under the control of Aspire.
The project office is located inside the Garrison's secure area.
One of this site's community engagement projects was the full refurbishment of an existing homeless centre, as well as the provision of everything needed from plasterboard to fridges. Food drives were established to encourage donations, and the team set up a Christmas Box initiative so that everyone at the centre would receive a present. A further initiative was the free rejuvenation of a neglected wildlife garden in a local junior school. This included the re-design of the garden into themed areas, which was carried out by over 40 staff and principal contractor operatives.
Welfare provision was extremely well supervised, and the company carried out a 'Boot Camp' whereby all operatives had their boots checked for state of repair and for suitability. A special discount for replacement boots was arranged with a local supplier. In addition, an exceptional joint initiative titled The Joint Legacy Charter was established with the Garrison management team. This seeks to ensure that all positive links can be maintained with the community once the contractors are no longer on site.
Overall, this was an exemplar project carried out in the very best traditions of considerate construction.
