Contractor: Aspire Defence Capital Works
Client: Project Allenby/Connaught
This £123 million project, home to the Land Warfare Centre and other specialist military services, is for a series of refurbishments and new builds extending to 2014.
Pro-active involvement across all areas of the local community has been a feature since works began in 2007. All affected neighbours, from army personnel and their families to residents of Warminster and a local farmer, received a pre-start letter advising the commencement of works and details of each new project sector. This was supported by updates and dialogue, and regular meetings were then held every two weeks with the garrison management team.
The site helped a local school student with two weeks' work experience and generated 15 work placements from a 'Budding Brunels' three day event, highlighting various job opportunities. There were regular contributions from fundraising to local good causes, including the Warminster Saddle Club and the 'Riding for the Disabled' charity. The company is also contributing to a memorial for troops recently lost on duty.
With dedicated wildlife protection, the creation of a legacy environmental report and first class staff facilities, this large multi-faceted project showed great overall consideration and was a model of Scheme best practice.
