In south-east London, this project is the second phase of a 15 year regeneration programme of Kidbrooke Village, to include 287 apartments, 134 townhouses, a leisure centre and cinema facilities.

In every area of site activity and community involvement, this project excelled. On the site itself, a 'Cordless Culture' initiative was in place for workforce hand tools, and this was supported by the three major tool manufacturers. The result was an almost total absence of trailing wires across the site, improving both safety and efficiency. Rainwater was used to fill swales instead of mains supplies, and surplus materials donated locally, while an innovative 'Mates of Migrants' scheme was introduced with staff offering regular advice to foreign operatives on a range of issues.

Community support was particularly extensive, with a Regeneration Centre established to present the whole project and local school presentations given on sustainability and history. Sponsorship was provided for local youth facilities, and assistance given in the clean-up of a nearby river. Charity fundraising included a cycle challenge, boxing evening, and a football event at Wembley with subcontractors and suppliers.

With many other examples of considerate construction and a first class presentation throughout, this was an exemplar project and a credit to the aims of the Scheme.
