Presented to: David Peacop OBE
Contractor: CLM Operations Team
Client: Olympic Delivery Authority

This high profile project for the London Olympic site required close working with the Olympic Delivery Authority and all contractors to manage security, personnel, roads, deliveries, transport and other logistics over the entire seven-venue operation.

The expectation for this project was the establishment of new benchmark standards with particular regard to the requirements of considerate construction. This was met with enthusiasm, dedication and great success by the site team. Over 6,000 people, many of whom were previously unemployed, received some form of training on the site, including 255 women who have been helped into the construction industry. An initiative was also developed to promote and deliver learning in the workplace and community through trade unions, registering more than 550 learners including workers from the Olympic Park site, local employers and members of the local community. Additional training was then provided to help apprentices maintain momentum after completion of the project.

Detailed studies were also carried out on occupational behaviour, one of which identified an increase in accidents mid-morning for operatives who skipped breakfast. This was rectified with a special 'one pound porridge' provision.

The site team were also twice winners of the Noise Abatement Society Award, and engaged extensively with more than 500 schools and community projects. As a result of all this work, the Head of Logistics for CLM received an OBE for his services to the Games, endorsing the exceptional considerate efforts made by the whole site team.
