August 2014
Issue 33
The Scheme welcomed its new Chairman Mike Petter
as DavidWatson, Chairman for the past two years, steps
down from the role.
In David’s time as Chairman, he’s
helped the Scheme introduce a
number of new initiatives and
celebrate many milestones
including 70,000 Site Registrations
and 100,000 Monitor visits. He
saw the development and launch
of the new Code and Checklist in
2013 and helped develop Supplier
Registration in 2014.
David’s role as Immediate Past
Chairman means he will remain on
the Board and continue to advise
on the Scheme’s future direction
for another year.
Mike Petter became a Scheme
Director in July 2012 and Vice
Chairman in 2013. Mike began
his career at Geoffrey Osborne
Ltd, working on a variety of
construction projects before
becoming Contracts Manager
for the company. Prior to joining
the Scheme in 2008, Mike was
Managing Director for Five
Dimensional Management Ltd, a
well-established consultancy firm
specialising in construction.
John Sayers steps down as Director
but assumes the new position
of Scheme Ambassador, a new
role with the responsibility of
representing the Scheme at various
industry functions and events.
Changes to the
Scheme’s Board
Angus Kennedy, who has been
monitoring for the Scheme since
2011, joins the Board. A Chartered
Builder, Angus began his career
as a site engineer, progressing
to construction manager with
a number of construction firms.
In 2007 Angus was appointed
as Construction Director on the
£150m Maxim Business Park in
Lanarkshire, and continues to
provide project management and
consultancy services for the new
park operators, and for a number of
other clients.
Albert Ree joined the Board in
April, having worked for Balfour
Beatty for over 30 years joining
initially as a Graduate Engineer.
During his career Albert built a
strong portfolio across all key civil
engineering and construction
disciplines. His enthusiastic project
management and leadership
skills have ensured the successful
delivery of a number of prestigious
projects for key customers. In 2000
Albert became Regional Director
for Balfour Beatty Construction and
in 2005 appointed to the Board
of Balfour Beatty Construction
Northern. In mid-2012, Albert
accepted the leadership role for the
Sustainability portfolio in the new
Construction Services UK.
I would like to
thank David for his
contribution over
the last two years
and look forward
to continuing the
Scheme’s success.
I would also like to
thank John for his
time as a Director
and wish him luck
as the new Scheme
Albert and Angus
joining the Board
brings a wealth of
experience which
will only help
strengthen the
Scheme’s position
and ensure that it
remains the leading
voice in improving
