project spend is with companies

that are located within a 50-mile

radius of the site. This is in addition

to the promotion of cycle-to-work

and car-sharing initiatives, all of

which contribute to reducing

the carbon footprint on the local

environment.

Other initiatives aimed at reducing

the environmental impact include

the use of solar-powered toilets,

rainwater storage tanks and energy

saving cabins.

Working alongside the emergency

services has been a key part

of integrating the site into the

community. David Armstrong has

been attending monthly Police

and Community Together (PACT)

meetings to both inform and receive

information about activities going

on both on site and in the local area.

The viewing platform has been

proving very popular with visitors,

allowing a safe and secure vantage

point across the site, providing

real-time information contained in

viewing cabinets on the platform. It

is an ideal educational tool for all.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS?

Another key attribute the

team have embraced is forging

partnerships, not only within

the project but also in the local

community. The team understands

that this project will be a true

legacy, not only to the local

area, but also the UK as Hitachi

will be exporting rolling stock

manufactured from this new facility

across the world.

Feedback from Hitachi and the

CCS scores achieved clearly

demonstrate the ethos that is truly

being embraced and significantly

supports us changing the

stereotypical persona frequently

associated with construction.

We have an amazing team

constructing our state-

of-the-art rail vehicle

manufacturing facility;

what more could Hitachi

Rail ask for from its chosen

supply chain partners.

The high standards being

achieved on site provide

the perfect foundation

for Hitachi Rail to

manufacture world class

rolling stock solutions.

Merchant Place

Developments fully

supports the high

standards achieved on site

via Shepherd Construction

and its supply chain

partners and we endorse

the comments made

by Hitachi. It shows

what can be achieved

by the strong team

ethos between Hitachi,

Shepherd, Network Rail

and Merchant Place

Developments and

all their supply chain

partners.
