In a quiet residential street in the Barbican area of London, this project required the

refurbishment and conversion of an existing office block to provide 90

high-specification apartments.

The highest standards were in

evidence throughout this busy site,

including exceptional cleanliness

and presentation.

Among the high-quality graphics

covering the hoardings were

quotes from local people giving

a real sense of community

Other initiatives included helping

disadvantaged local 13 and

14-year-olds and working in

partnership with the charity Shelter.

A corporate job creation scheme

benefited young and

unemployed people.

Energy saving was a clear priority,

with the site’s carbon footprint

carefully monitored, and over

20 tons of wood donated to a

community recycling project.

In terms of staff wellbeing, the site

successfully trialled new hi-vis PPE

with built-in back support and

operatives received two monthly

occupational nurse visits.

The Monitor, in his report,

concluded that this was an

exceptional site in all aspects of

the Scheme, and a fine example of

considerate construction.
