This prestigious on-going phased development in London involves the construction of over 1000 apartments in various

buildings, now being progressively occupied.

Communication extends beyond existing site neighbours, with all new residents contacted personally and included in

the programme. A team of dedicated operatives clean the surrounding streets on a daily basis and maintenance work is

undertaken well outside the site perimeter. This results in exceptional presentation throughout. A feedback questionnaire for

neighbours is issued quarterly with results published and acted upon.

A multi-lingual survey is issued to the workforce for feedback on issues concerning the site and staff welfare. Similarly high

standards apply to the comprehensive accommodation which includes religious and cultural considerations. Operatives of

different nationalities were acknowledged by displaying their national flags in the site compound.

This level of considerate detail, along with exceptional performance across all sections of the Code of Considerate Practice, has

resulted in a site that is of enormous credit to the industry and those involved.

In preparation for London’s Crossrail development, this project involved the refurbishment of an existing Victorian tunnel,

involving piling, dewatering works and major demolitions.

Since the start of work, the project embodied some groundbreaking techniques across many operational areas, with high

standards maintained and exceeded throughout. Despite being in its final stages, the site continued to provide extensive

community involvement and charity support, including children’s painting competitions and involvement with a local school’s

reading programmme.

New concepts were trialled in terms of environmental protection and a safety programme featured open forums involving

senior management. There was also comprehensive support for apprenticeships. Overall, this site set new benchmark

standards which are now recognised throughout the industry.

The performance was summarised by the Scheme Monitor who, in his report, described the site as an “outstanding example of

considerate construction in action”.
