This central London project required the design and construction of two high quality multi-storey office buildings with a

podium linking other blocks. The works also included the refurbishment of an existing listed building.

The site was described by the visiting Scheme Monitor as “an exceptionally well-organised and managed site” and he was

impressed to see a team continually striving to improve on their already high standards. Despite the associated difficulties of

a city centre location, exemplary standards were observed throughout the many site areas. The CSR plan was clearly displayed

with extensive information on the project’s progress and community activities. These included construction workshops

delivered at a prison and the house redecoration and garden clear up for a cancer sufferer.

A cycle purchase scheme, together with comprehensive first class welfare and career development facilities for operatives, all

contributed to make this a fine example of industry best practice; not only for site workers but the passing public in general.

This ongoing project in Havant, Hampshire, involves the modernisation of an operational community school, including

the demolition of existing classrooms, construction of extensive new teaching facilities and the refurbishment of existing

accommodation.

The site has managed to improve on its previous Gold Award-winning performance with even smarter presentation and

enhanced community support. Amongst the many local initiatives were the voluntary major upgrading of a nearby primary

school playground and the burying of a time capsule, involving the host school’s students. There were also a number of charity

fundraising events, and the whole effort resulted in the school nominating the site team for an Amazing People award at the

Portsmouth Education Business Partnership.

Fronted by a gatekeeper who ensured regular and friendly contact with the passing public and school parents, this site also

performed highly for its environmental conservation efforts and workforce welfare. Although smaller than many projects, this

site demonstrated what can be achieved through considerate effort and imagination, producing an exemplary performance.
