“In terms of the environment, we

built an enclosed storage facility for

fuel tanks which reduced the risk of

potential fuel contamination.”

Renowned for supporting its local

community, Mick George Ltd was

thrilled to be able to help TV’s Nick

Knowles and his DIY SOS team

with the build of The Little Miracles

charity’s new flagship centre in

Peterborough, as part of the BBC’s

Children in Need programme in

November 2013.

Mick George’s relationship with

The Little Miracles charity - a

group supporting children with

disabilities and life-limiting

conditions and their families -

began when Mick George Ltd’s

client, the GKL Group, asked if

they would donate products

and services for the BBC One

programme ‘DIY SOS’.

Quick to volunteer, Mick George’s

distinctive trucks could be seen

travelling back and forth from

the firm’s Peterborough depot at

Dogsthorpe and further afield.

In total, Mick George donated

approx. £35,000 worth of products

and services to The Little Miracles

project including aggregates, ready

mixed concrete, site clearance,

skip hire and waste management

services.

Outlining how he feels the

Scheme is improving the image

of construction, Chris said: “We

feel the Scheme is helping drive

companies forward as a result of

implementing new procedures and

processes.

“As a result, sites are tidier and safer

for both those working on them

and the surrounding community.

The community outreach work and

Ivor Goodsite character have also

softened the image by engaging

with and educating the public

on the positive aspects of the

construction industry in their area.”

Recommending other

organisations to follow suit and join

the Scheme, he concluded: “The

awards give companies real targets

and rewards for fine-tuning their

operations and business activities.

“We have found that more and

more clients and main contractors

are asking if we are compliant with

the Scheme during the tendering

process and we are positive that

as a result of achieving the Silver

standard, we have received more

pricing opportunities.”

He added: “Having had such

a fantastic first year, we are

committed to working towards

achieving Gold next year!”
