partnership with the Scheme

VolkerWessels undertakes

specialised work across the

UK through its six operating

companies; VolkerFitzpatrick,

VolkerRail, VolkerStevin,

VolkerHighways, VolkerLaser and


This work encompasses highways,

civil engineering, construction,

railway engineering, steel

foundations, pipeline and cable

installation, marine works, flood

protection and land reclamation.

VolkerWessels UK Head of

Corporate Responsibility, Adrian

Shah-Cundy explained why the

group signed up to the Scheme

in 1998, before later becoming a

Scheme Associate Member in 2004.

He said: “The simple principle

of the Scheme to improve the

image of construction is key to the

ongoing success of the industry. By

integrating common commitments

into construction management, it

gives our projects an opportunity

to demonstrate good practice.

“This also allows them to be

assessed to a common standard

and compared to other sites in our

Group and around the industry.”

Outlining the benefits of

registration, Mr Shah-Cundy added:
