SCHEME NEWS

16

December 2015

Issue 39

is to encourage the highest

performing sites to look at how

they promote the industry

through the image of their

sites, perhaps through the use

of their hoardings, websites,

social media, etc. Examples

could be decorated hoardings,

graphic displays, information

displays, etc.

• ‘Social media’ has been added

as a prompt to question 1.10

to encourage sites to use social

media to promote the site and

the industry in general. This

could be Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Respect the

Community

• ‘Advance notice of disruptive

works’ has been added as a

prompt to question 2.1, to

highlight the need for sites to

manage the impact of their

disruptive activities and reduce

community frustrations and

complaints.

• ‘24/7 contact information/

arrangements’ has been

moved from question 2.7 to

the compliance question 2.1,

as all sites should be providing

out of hours contact details

in the event of complaints,

emergencies or security issues.

This could be by displaying

the site manager’s mobile

telephone number on an

appropriate external notice

but on the larger sites this is

likely to be a dedicated 24-hour

hotline.

• ‘Goodwill’ has been moved

from question 2.10 to the

compliance question 2.3 as

all sites should be looking to

provide an element of goodwill

work though their activities.

• ‘Labour’ and ‘suppliers’ have

been added as prompts to

question 2.3 to reflect the

greater social value that can be

considered when contributing

to the local economy.

• ‘Feedback questionnaire’

in question 2.7 has been

amended to ‘feedback’, as the

Scheme looks for evidence of

feedback processes to be in

place, which may involve the

use of questionnaires but could

also involve other means.

• ‘Careers advice’ has been added

as a prompt to question 2.8,

as sites should be looking to

provide or support careers

advice in the local schools,

colleges, etc.

• ‘Charities/organisations’ has

been added as a prompt to

question 2.10, as all registered

sites looking to achieve the

highest scores should be

seeking to have some kind of

involvement with charities or

organisations e.g. Scouts, Girls

Guides, community groups, etc.

Protect the

Environment

• ‘Initial environmental

assessment’ has been added

as a prompt to question 3.1
