2015 Scheme changes

From the 1st January 2015, the Scheme will be making a number of changes to ensure it can continue offering the highest levels of service to every registered site, company and supplier.

New 2015 Monitors’ Checklists

The Scheme has reviewed the current Checklists to ensure they remain relevant and challenging and is pleased to publish the updated 2015 Checklists for sites, companies and suppliers which will come into effect on 1st January 2015. Feedback was received from the Scheme’s Monitor population as well as from contractors who use the Scheme, and all feedback was considered and reviewed. The changes that have been made are amendments to the Checklist prompts not to the questions themselves.

Prompts on the Checklist simply indicate areas that the Monitor may look at when assessing performance against that question. There are, however, many ways to address the Scheme’s requirements and therefore this list of prompts is not exhaustive and other areas will need to be considered. There will also be instances where sites have elected to choose other methods to address an issue outside of the prompts suggested and this is equally acceptable as long as the Monitor is satisfied that the question itself has been appropriately addressed.

Please see below for the changes to the Checklist.

Respect the Community

  • ‘Working hours’ has been added as a prompt to question 2.1.

Protect the Environment

  • ‘Investigation’ has been added as a prompt to question 3.5 as sites should be conducting some form of investigation with regards to environmental issues so that appropriate issues are identified and action taken.
  • ‘Accreditations’ has also been added to question 3.5 as a prompt to reflect the fact that various environmental accreditations are now available which recognise action being taken to address environmental issues.

Secure everyone’s Safety

  • ‘Safety signage’ has been added as a prompt to question 4.5 as this is a vital part of addressing safety issues outside of the site perimeter.
  • ‘Language differences’ and ‘visual/ hearing impaired’ have been added as prompts to question 4.9 as increased diversity on sites will drive them to consider how important safety messages are communicated to those who don’t speak English as their first language and those with visual or hearing impairments.

Value their Workforce

  • ‘Inappropriate language’ has been added as a prompt to question 5.1 as sites should have policies and procedures in place to address the use of inappropriate language on site.
  • The prompt ‘contact details’ within question 5.3 has been expanded to ’emergency contact details’ to provide clarity to sites.
  • ‘Showers’ as a prompt has been moved from question 5.4 to question 5.9 as this should not be a compliance requirement.
  • The prompt ‘lockers’ has also been moved from question 5.4 to question 5.9 as this is not a compliance requirement. However, ‘secure storage’ has been added as a prompt to question 5.4 as sites should be providing some kind of secure storage for valuables and personal belongings if lockers are not provided.
  • ‘Disadvantaged groups’ has been added as a prompt to question 5.6 to reflect the need for sites to look beyond the normal routes of schools, colleges, etc. to find potential recruits.
  • ‘Mental health’ added as a prompt to question 5.7 to reflect the need for sites to look beyond physical health and to consider mental health issues, e.g. stress, depression, anxiety, etc.
  • ‘Exercise’ has been removed as a prompt from question 5.9 as this is implicit within ‘recreation’.

The changes have been made in order to help sites, companies and suppliers understand what is being asked of them and to provide guidance and direction on how they can further develop their considerate practices.
