Scheme Announces Leadership Changes

The Considerate Constructors Scheme, the organisation which helps to raise standards across the construction industry and build public trust, has announced a series of changes amongst its leadership team.

The Scheme, which monitors approximately 5000 construction sites across the UK and Ireland each year against its Code of Considerate Practice, has made a number of significant achievements particularly over the past three years, in terms of its development, delivery and positive impact, alongside driving the development of two additional important independent organisations focussed on leadership and culture, Building a Safer Future and the Code for Construction Product Information.

Continuing to further embed these achievements of the Scheme going forwards, Amit Oberoi has been appointed as non-Executive Chairman of the Scheme, with effect from 11 July 2022. Amit succeeds Executive Chairman Isabel Martinson MBE who stepped down from the role on 10 July, following the completion of her second three-year term.

It was also announced that Scheme Chief Executive Amanda Long will be leaving at the end of the year following a successful three-year tenure, which has delivered positive transformation in the Scheme’s strategy, development, delivery and contribution to raising standards in the industry and building public trust.

Amit is a Global Risk Management Practitioner, with over 20 years hands-on cross industry experience in leadership roles in construction, technology, management consulting and national authorities. Amit currently works as CEO at The Resilience Factor, a Mental Health Technology Company.

He has worked across many different sectors for the likes of Deliveroo, Lend Lease Corporation, Deloitte, FIFA World Cup and Governments such as Qatar and Australia on transformation and high-profile infrastructure projects.

Commenting on his appointment as non-Executive Chairman, Amit said:

I became a Board Director of the Considerate Constructors Scheme in January 2022 as I could see the immense value in the work the Scheme achieves across the industry and with the public. I am now delighted to be appointed as non-Executive Chairman where my focus will be on continuing the excellent foundations which have been put in place so far. “Isabel has overseen many fundamental positive changes to the way in which the Scheme operates over the past six years, and I look forward to adding to the valuable impact she has made. As Chief Executive, Amanda has spearheaded a number of transformational programmes and established the CCS on a new and significant journey to raise standards and build trust. On behalf of the CCS Board, I thank them both for their outstanding contributions.

I am hugely grateful to my fellow Board directors for the support and commitment they have given to me and to CCS over the past six years. I am also absolutely delighted and extremely impressed with what Amanda has achieved since she joined CCS in 2019, helping take CCS to a completely new level and initiating the two new independently governed Schemes, Building a Safer Future, on behalf of the Early Adopters, and the Code for Construction Product Information, on behalf of the Construction Products Association, both of which Schemes, by their association, further enhance the positive impact of CCS. “Collectively we have achieved an enormous amount over the past six years, in spite of significant challenges such as the Covid pandemic, and I know that I am leaving CCS in Amit’s immensely capable hands to take it forward.

A very big thank you to Isabel for all her support she has given me over the past three years and thank you to everyone who I have worked with in helping the Scheme make such considerable achievements. By embracing the complexity arising from major hazard safety issues facing the industry, we are playing a key role in providing new tools to support much needed leadership and culture change across the sector – important work which has been recognised publicly by key stakeholders including across industry and Government. Working together we have delivered fundamental strategic positive development for the CCS and laid the foundations for the future of two important organisations, Building a Safer Future, and the Code for Construction Product Information. I wish the Scheme every success going forwards.” A new Chief Executive will be recruited over the coming months. Amanda will be working closely with Amit and the new Chief Executive, when appointed, to ensure a smooth transition when she completes her six months notice in December. Amanda said: “I would like to congratulate Amit on his appointment as non-Executive Chairman. Having worked with Amit over the past six months in his role as a Board Director, I believe he will make a positive contribution to the development of the Scheme going forwards, I look forward to supporting him over the coming months and I wish him all the very best for the future.
