Balfour Beatty Power, Transmission & Distribution, Viking Link for the initiative P1 – a sustainable site of the future

Balfour Beatty working with Sunbelt have reimaged temporary welfare and office accommodation to create an industry-first sustainable site cabin at its Viking Link primary compounds (P1). Significantly reducing energy loss, the cabins have for the first time gained a ‘B rating’ making them the most energy efficient in the industry. The project features additional insulation, less structural joints to prevent energy loss, reduced KW heaters and harvested rainwater. During the project the cabins achieved a carbon saving of 430,204kg and its zero-carbon battery storage system saved an additional 638,000kg Co2. The cabins are now standard across Balfour Beatty, demonstrating its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, helping improve site conditions and raising the standards of sustainable construction throughout the industry.
