Mace Group

Construction Project Overview

Canada Water Plot A2 is a large-scale project involving the development of a leisure centre, retail outlets, and offices on a brownfield site. Mace has been awarded a Considerate Constructors Scheme Gold National Site Award for the incredible standards upheld during the project in 2023. The project management team deserves recognition for upholding exceptional standards during construction, positively impacting the community, environment, and workforce.

Project Highlights

The site has achieved high standards across multiple areas, making it an exemplary project. Its overall appearance is excellent, enhanced by the welcoming entryway. The commitment to community engagement is evident in strategic onsite activities targeted toward the local populace. Additionally, the team actively promotes construction as a viable career path, through collaborations with nearby educational establishments. Environmental performance is a clear priority, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions. This dedication is reflected in informative displays both inside the site and along the perimeter. The site provides first-rate facilities for its workforce, demonstrating exceptional care for all those involved in the project.

Innovations and Best Practices

The project team has also exceeded expectations by implementing an innovation and best practice initiative. For best practice, the team volunteered expertise and resources for Global Generation’s Paper Garden project in Canada Water, establishing a sustainable learning environment for children. Additionally, the team innovatively pioneered the UK’s first use of XCarb Renewably Produced and Recycled Steel, demonstrating a commitment to reducing embodied carbon emissions despite higher costs.

Respecting the Community

The team has maintained excellent communication with neighbours and implements a wide range of community engagement projects. Residents are consistently informed about site developments, and diverse initiatives promote both community involvement and construction careers. Proactive engagement with colleges and students regarding the benefits of a career in construction is a particularly noteworthy aspect of these efforts.

Caring for the Environment

The site team has taken environmental concerns seriously, focusing on sustainable performance across various initiatives, including carbon offsetting. Comprehensive systems, such as dedicated environmental plans and supply chain workshops, ensure a high level of environmental accountability. Furthermore, they demonstrate proactivity through recycling efforts and the temporary planting of greenery onsite.

Valuing the Workforce

The project team has prioritised high standards for the site’s workforce. Facilities are of exceptional quality, with a particularly impressive outdoor seating area designed for external relations. The team employs comprehensive training methods, including e-learning on topics like women in construction. Regular consultations empower staff, while social events promote a sense of community.

Congratulations to the team for these outstanding performance levels.
