McLaughlin & Harvey Construction Ltd, Alexander Stadium Redevelopment for the initiative Green & Sustainable: Alexander Stadium’s Biodiversity

In the delivery of Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium redevelopment project, McLaughlin & Harvey (McL&H) exceeded its plan to reduce waste, improve the natural environmental and support local communities. On its path to become Net Zero by 2030 and support Birmingham’s Business Charter for Social Responsibility, McL&H created a biodiversity strategy partnering with its supply chain, employees, schools and community groups. The plan provided resources such as volunteer time, small grants and materials to local schools and environmentally-focused community projects. Also included were sustainability workshops for kids; environmental training to employees; the creation of a wildflower meadow; and organised litter picks. Successfully engaging with local stakeholders, the project has created a positive impact for the community and helped McL&H receive nationally recognised accreditations in environmental management.
