Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Ltd, Werrington Grade Separation for the initiative Biodiversity Management and Improvements

To reduce the environmental impact of the Werrington Grade Separation rail project, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure successfully implemented an Ecology Management Plan that would help preserve local wildlife and achieve a biodiversity net gain. Winning a Green Apple Environmental Best Practice Award and a top Considerate Constructor Scheme environment score, the plan included moving and reintroducing affected animal species, the translocation of river bank topsoil and the construction of two large ponds and a 840 metre river. The project has not only left a lasting legacy for wildlife to thrive, including a rare species of moth, but it has also increased flood capacity and water quality for local residence whilst creating a focal point for conservation events for future generations to enjoy.
