Company and Supplier Monitors’ Checklists – 2020 changes

Further to the changes made to the Site Checklist that were recently announced, the 2020 Checklists for registered Companies and Suppliers are now available.

All of the changes outlined for registered sites apply equally to the Supplier Checklist and the Company Checklist that is used for companies with a turnover greater than £3.5M. All changes can be viewed here.

There are also two further Company Checklists; one for companies with a turnover below £250k and another for companies with a turnover between £250k and £3.5M. The changes to these Checklists are outlined further below and link to the Company and Supplier Checklists are listed below:

Company Checklist for companies with a turnover between £250k and £3.5M

Appearance

  • Smoking prompt in question 1.3 amended to smoking and vaping as it is now generally accepted that these are two different issues with different challenges.
  • Question 1.6 amended to include reference to vaping for the reason given above.
  • In question 1.7, ‘First Impressions campaign’ has been amended to ‘First Impressions standards’. This simply reflects that it is about sites aiming to adopt the standards outlined within the campaign, rather than being about the campaign itself.

Community

  • In question 2.1 we have amended ‘company contact information and 24/7 contact information/arrangements’ to ‘company and out of hours contact information’. This simply clarifies the Scheme’s requirements for contact details and doesn’t present a change in any way.

Environment

  • In question 3.3, ‘inspections’ has been added as a prompt as these should be carried out regularly by site staff and suitably recorded.
  • In question 3.4, we have added a new prompt ‘hybrid/electric plant’ as this is something now being adopted across the industry.

Safety

  • Question 4.6 has been amended to ‘vehicles and plant to and from the site’ rather than just ‘outside the site’ to clarify that traffic routes should be considered especially any potential hot spots such as local schools, hospitals, etc.

Workforce

  • Modern Slavery has been added to question 5.4 as this is an area where there is a need to raise awareness across the industry. We expect sites and companies to have an awareness of what to look out for and to be able to apply this across their operation and supply chains. For further information please visit the Scheme’s Best Practice Hub and search for ‘modern slavery’.
  • Question 5.5 has been amended to ‘What is the company doing to promote construction as a career of choice?’ to provide greater focus on this vital subject.
  • The e-smoking prompt in 5.6 has been amended to vaping for clarity.
  • Question 5.7 has been amended to ‘What is being done to help encourage more equality, diversity and inclusion within the company?’ to further drive the focus on the EDI agenda.

Additional Questions

  • The ordering of the existing questions has been amended slightly as some questions are a snapshot of the current situation while other questions relates to data from when the project first started.
  • A new question ‘Is there someone within the company who champions Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity’ has been added.
  • A new additional question has been added asking ‘Has the company updated its profile on the Construction Map?’
