Second Honor Goodsite Big Build Competition officially open!

The Scheme is delighted to open its second Honor Goodsite Big Build competition to entrants.

Big Build gives Scheme-registered organisations the chance to reach out to community groups, such as schools and youth clubs and help them design and build famous or fictional buildings from recyclable materials.

The Scheme was absolutely thrilled to receive 32 entries for the first Big Build, launched last year. Entries included a variety of fabulous models ranging from the historic Colwyn Bay Pier, to the iconic home of football itself, Wembley Stadium.

Big Build is free to enter and requires children to think creatively about a hugely important issue of today – the environment and our impact upon it.

They are given the opportunity to learn from contractors about how they are reducing their impact on the environment, and can apply this knowledge in their everyday lives.

Honor’s competition is the perfect way for contractors to engage with the public while giving the next generation a window into the construction industry and the varied, exciting jobs that come with it.

All participants need to do is approach a school or community group, set a date for the build, collect recyclable materials and then build and decorate their amazing models!

Considerate Constructors Chief Executive, Edward Hardy said:

“Honor’s Big Build helps to deliver three really important messages to children and young adults; how exciting the construction industry is to work in; how important protecting the environment is when creating buildings; and how construction is open to everyone, by having a female industry mascot helping to challenge the perception that construction is only for men.

“Huge thanks to CITB’s Go Construct initiative for partnering with the Scheme to help make this year’s competition even bigger.  We look forward to seeing a fantastic range of creative entries from across the UK and Ireland.”
